This year’s incoming students have been gearing up for life at the Mount over the summer with events to welcome the new Athenians and immerse them in the University's academic and community life.

Athenian Experience, held June 20-21 at the Doheny Campus, hosted over 350 new undergraduate students who had already committed to the Mount. Organized by the Women’s Leadership and Student Engagement Office, this dynamic and engaging program offered incoming students a sample of what to expect as they embark on their academic journeys.

The program featured a series of informative sessions where participants learned about the University's academic programs, student services, and campus resources. The Department Fair was a highlight, with nearly all academic and student-oriented programs in attendance, providing students with valuable information and insights.

In addition to the educational sessions, the event included a variety of activities designed to help students connect with their peers. Fun games, a lively pool party, and other social events created a welcoming atmosphere.

"Athenian Experience aims to foster a sense of community and belonging right from the start, setting a positive foundation for the students’ tenure at the Mount,” said Linda McMurdock, PhD, vice president for Student Affairs. “Attendance of our orientation events is a vital part of students’ transition to the Mount and have a positive impact in their academic success.”

Incoming student Yarelli Baez shared her excitement about the event: “I knew that becoming an Athenian was the best decision I have ever made the minute I stepped onto Mount Saint Mary's University. I am excited to start my new journey at such a beautiful and welcoming campus."

On August 22-24, before the beginning of classes, new students will participate in New Student Orientation at the Chalon Campus, where they will gain additional insights about campus resources and leadership and involvement opportunities. With these orientation events setting the stage, the new Athenians are poised to make the most of their time at the Mount.
